Dr. Tommy Oliver, the former Mighty Morphin Green Ranger, White Ranger, Red Zeo Ranger and first Red Turbo Ranger, has retired to teach science at Reefside High School after his lab exploded and his partner, Anton Mercer, disappeared. When Principal Randall puts him in charge of three students for detention, he takes them on a trip to a museum. The students fall into an underground lab, where they find the Dino Gems and become Power Rangers. A fourth Dino Gem is soon found, and Tommy Oliver joins them as the Black Ranger.
When a fifth Dino Gem is found, this one tainted by evil, it takes over Trent. He fights against the Power Rangers as the evil White Ranger. After the evil of his Dino Gem is destroyed, Trent joins the Rangers to fight on the side of good. Together, they battle against Mesogog, an evil villain who wants to return the Earth to the era of the dinosaurs.
