Kat is the kindly, dedicated Chief Science Officer of S.P.D., friend to the Rangers and Commander Cruger. She is responsible for developing, building and maintaining a large amount of the Rangers' technology, including their morphers, patrol vehicles, Zords, and other equipment. She also occasionally oversees the Rangers' training, assisted in these tasks by Boom. She appears to have some medical experience/knowledge as well, as she tended to Commander Cruger when the traitrous Dru attempted to assassinate him (Beginnings pts. I and II, Idol). Though a scientist, she is a ferocious fighter and is more than capable of defending herself in battle when she needs to. Kat also acts as a mentor to the Rangers, giving them advice when needed, standing up for them to both Commander Cruger and Supreme Commander Birdy, and soothing hurt feelings when Cruger loses his temper at them. She and Doggie appear to be old and very close friends; he often confides his fears in her, and she in turn offers comfort and also has no problem telling him when he's being unfair to the Rangers (Shadow pts. I and II, Abandoned, Insomnia). Kat has a bit of a rebellious side, as well- she created the Patrol Morpher for Doggie against his wishes, and later on made him the Delta ATV as well as encouraging the Rangers to persuade him to come back, all behind Supreme Commander Birdy's back (Shadow pt. I, Dismissed).
In the episode Katastrophe, Kat was offered a top-level position at S.P.D. Headquarters by Birdy. She was initially reluctant to take it, but the Rangers, Doggie, and Boom felt it was an important opportunity for her. They started putting more effort into helping her and taking on some of her duties, so she decided to leave, feeling as though she were no longer needed and regretfully remembering all of the good times she had shared with her friends. However, Kat quickly found that she was unhappy with her new job, where she had a staff to do everything for her instead of being able to work herself and get her hands dirty, missing the chaos and disorder back at the Delta Base. Calling home only made her regret her decision more, when she found that they were apparently getting along well without her. When she heard that Mooney, an old rival from the science academy, was attacking the Rangers, however, she begged Birdy to let her go back to try and talk Mooney out of it. Birdy agreed, but before Kat left, he handed her a one-hour morpher, telling her that there was a time for talk but also a time for action, and to use it wisely. She quickly left for Earth and used the morpher to become Kat Ranger, fighting off some Krybots before deactivating the dangeous Helios Generator within the robot Mooney had sent to fight the Rangers. The others were shocked to see that Kat had become a Ranger, but she assured them that would be the only time she'd suit up. Afterwards, she prepared to head back to Headquarters, but when Boom broke down and begged her to stay, she knew that Earth was where she was needed most of all.
When Broodwing and his cohorts invaded the Delta Base, Kat and Boom were briefly taken captive before being broken out by R.I.C. She helped rally the remaining Cadets into battle, even taking a laser blaster herself to fend off the invaders. Later on, she is present to help supervise the rebuilding of the damaged Base.
Very little was ever said of Kat's life before S.P.D. It is known that she was top in her class at the science academy and that she has been on Earth since at least 2001, when she worked alongside the Rangers' parents to develop B-Squad's powers (Sam pt. II, Katastrophe).
