Delta Morphers

The core 5 Rangers morphing Sky judging a criminal Kat demonstrates Confinement Mode

The Delta Morphers, which resemble police badges, allow the main five Rangers to morph and have several other functions besides. The morpher has a slider on the side to allow the Rangers to choose which function to use. When not in use, they have their own holsters, which are usually worn on the Rangers' right hips, above their laser blaster. When morphed, they are stored on the Rangers' belts at the small of their backs, and when in S.W.A.T. Mode (see below) they are inserted into the chest armor. They also serve as identification; for example, in Endings pt. I, Bridge used his to access the hidden underground Zord bay to get the S.W.A.T. Flyers after the Delta Squad Megazord was destroyed, and a picture of each Ranger along with their name and rank can be seen on the bottom flap when Change mode is used.

  • Change - Pressing the button when this option is selected allows the Rangers to morph into their Ranger forms. The call is “S.P.D., Emergency!”. The Rangers' police and identification badges can also be seen in this mode. If the Rangers are already morphed, using the “Change” function calls forth S.W.A.T. Mode.
  • Phone - The second option exposes a phone keypad, which allows the Rangers to communicate with one another and can also display full-motion video (A-Bridged). This can be done both when morphed and unmorphed.
  • Judge - The third option is used for judging a criminal's guilt or innocence. According to Kat in Beginnings pt. I, the morpher reads body temperature, heart rate, and electrical impulses to deliver a verdict, and more importantly, it does not make mistakes. Guilt is shown with a large red X, innocence with a large blue O. A verdict takes about 30 seconds to be delivered.
  • Confinement - The button on top of the morpher can be pressed any time after a criminal is judged guilty to trap them in a Confinement Card.
  • Zord Control - The morphers are inserted into the Delta Runners and the Delta Command Megazord in order to power the Zords up and allow the Rangers to control them.
  • Other functions - In Sam pt. II, Z is seen using her morpher to trap Krybots inside an orb, which punishes them with lightning and explosions before shrinking down and making them disintigrate. Oddly, this was the first and last time this function was used, both in S.P.D. and its parent series Dekaranger.

Patrol Morpher

Doggie preparing to morph Judgment Time, Shadow style

This morpher belongs to the Shadow Ranger and was created by Kat for Doggie's use in Shadow pt. I. He used it for the first time in pt. II. It has the same functions the Delta Morphers do, but is colored entirely black with gold text and outlines.

Kat Morpher

Kat morphing Judgment Time, Kat style!

The Kat Morpher is only good for one hour and was given to Kat by Supreme Commander Birdie in Katastrophe. She uses it to morph into the Kat Ranger. It is identical to the Delta Morphers except it has a white face with orange text. It has the same functions as the Delta Morphers, though only Change and Judge were used.

Omega & Nova Morphers

Omega Morpher, electro mode! Judgment Omega Style

The Omega Ranger's morpher is worn on his left wrist. It is presumed that he uses it to morph while human, but was never seen doing so in-show due to his light ball state (though in Zapped he called out “S.P.D., Emergency!” when transforming from the light ball to his morphed form). It is known to have a Judgment Mode like the Delta Morphers, with the verdict being displayed on the face of the morpher. This morpher is unique in that it is also Omega's only weapon. Sam simply raises the throttle and revs it to activate various abilities. He was seen using it to slow down time and stop/catch “laser pellets”, deliver a barrage of fast punches, and send out devastating bolts of electricity (Messenger pt. II and others), among other abilities.

Though it was never seen being used, since Nova Ranger's morpher looks nearly identical to Omega's, it can be assumed it works the same way.

Battlized Morpher

S.P.D. Battlizer!

This morpher was developed by Kat and Boom, possibly using technology and knowledge gained from Omega Ranger's arrival, to summon the Battlizer upgrade (see below). It is stored within R.I.C. and works in conjunction with the Red Ranger's powers only (Reflection pt. I).

Confinement Cards

Praxis is confined

The Confinement Cards are a valuable tool that were developed by Kat to make transportation of dangerous criminals a non-issue. The cards are also a much easier, safer, and more effective way for them to serve jail time. They are about the size of a baseball card (though much thicker), are escape-proof, and have the perp's name and crime written on them. When a criminal is judged guilty, they can be inserted into one of these cards in a variety of ways, most commonly with the Delta Morphers, which shrink the perp to the proper size and automatically seal them within the card. The Delta Blasters, Canine Cannon, Shadow Saber, Battlizer, and Delta Enforcers can also be used for this purpose.

Laser Blaster

Jack doing target practice

All five core Rangers carry their own blaster in a holster at their right hips while unmorphed. They are used in unmorphed combat and also have a flashlight.

Handcuffs

Blue Ranger's gonna cuff a monster

Each S.P.D. Cadet is given a pair of containment cuffs to help them restrain unruly criminals, which fold in half. When morphed, the Rangers' cuffs are stored in their belt buckle.

Deltamax Strikers

Did Syd mention she was 3-time world fencing champion? The Pink Ranger using the completed Striker

The Deltamax Strikers are the standard sidearms used by the Blue, Green, Yellow and Pink Rangers. They are a two-piece weapon, consisting of a baton and a laser blaster, which can be wielded separately or combined for a more powerful attack. The baton is stored in a holster on the left hip, and the laser blaster in one on the right. The former is often used for short-range attacks, while the combined Striker is useful for longer-range attacks, or to fight off multiple opponents. The baton also has small explosives in the form of rings attached to the handle, though they were only used once, by Syd in Sam pt. II.

Delta Blasters

Delta Blasters! Combo Mode!

These guns are the Red Ranger's personal sidearms, capable of firing laser blasts at rapid speed. They can either be used separately or combined into the much more powerful Delta Blaster Combo Mode. Combo Mode is also capable of confining criminals when charged to full power.

Canine Cannon

R.I.C. transformed WE'RE IN UR BASE, CONFINING UR CRIMINALS

First appearing in Dogged, R.I.C. has the capability of transforming into the Canine Cannon when a bone-shaped key is placed in his mouth. All five core Rangers, sometimes joined by Omega and Shadow, then fire the Cannon at guilty criminals, either making them explode and sealing them into confinement cards or knocking them down and allowing them to be contained.

Shadow Saber

DOGGIE > YOU

The Shadow Saber is the Shadow Ranger's personal weapon, first appearing on display in Delta Command in Shadow pt. I, then used in combat in pt. II and afterwards. It can slice through Krybots and monsters with little trouble, is strong enough to stop and deflect laser fire, and has the power to summon intense blue flames that surround Shadow Ranger as he uses a devastating slash for his finishing move. Cruger was also seen using this weapon during the battle on Sirius.

S.P.D. Battlizer

Cyber Mode Sonic Mode

This powerful upgrade for the Red Ranger only was created by Kat and Boom before and during Reflection pt. I. It is quite likely that it was developed with knowledge and technology garnered from Omega's powers, as the morpher is identical to Omega's except for a few cosmetic changes. When summoned, R.I.C. sends the morpher to the Red Ranger, who transforms into Cyber Mode. This gives him light armor, a sword, and greatly-enhanced strength, speed, and agility. For a finisher move, he can then call forth Sonic Mode, causing R.I.C. himself to transform into armor that encases the Red Ranger's body, as well as a much more powerful sword/staff weapon that shoots out energy blasts, which destroys and contains criminals.

S.W.A.T. Mode

Special Weapons and Tactics! The 5 S.W.A.T. Rangers S.W.A.T. Yellow using her night vision scanner

Short for Special Weapons and Tactics, this upgrade for the core five Rangers was created by Kat and first introduced in S.W.A.T. pt. I, but was actually used for the first time in pt. II. The Rangers endured intense training under Sergeant Silverback to learn how to work together in order to achieve S.W.A.T. Mode and rescue the captive Sam and Cruger from the monsters Stench and Thresher, who had stolen the prototype technology and used it for themselves. When S.W.A.T. Mode is summoned, the Rangers are given extra armor on their arms, legs, and torso, as well as enhanced communication headsets on their helmets, and can use the Delta Enforcers (see below). Their helmets are also capable of using thermal, night-vision, and other special scanners.

Delta Enforcers

S.W.A.T. Blue's Delta Enforcer S.W.A.T. Green prepares to confine a criminal

These rifle weapons were first used in S.W.A.T. pt. II and are available only to the core five Rangers when they are in S.W.A.T. Mode. Large and durable, they can be used both for offensive combat and to deflect shots and blows from the enemy. They are also capable of confining criminals when a Confinement Card is swiped through and inserted along with a Delta Morpher.

Notes

  • In S.P.D.'s source series, Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, the Confinement Cards did not exist- criminals were simply deleted, and not confined (though, granted, they'd often committed MUCH more heinous acts, in some cases destroying dozens of planets or murdering hundreds of people). This is why several criminals are clearly seen to explode before they drop down to the ground, trapped inside a Confinement Card, and some weapons that really seem like they shouldn't be able to insert a criminal into a card (namely the Battlizer, Omega's morpher and the Shadow Saber) do have that ability.
  • Because of the first point, the Delta Enforcers often differ slightly from one scene to the next, and indeed even shot-to-shot- notably, the card reader on the side appears and disappears- because obviously, in Japan, a card swipe scene was not necessary.
  • The Battlized morpher is simply Omega's morpher with some slight cosmetic changes. VI (6), his number, can even still be seen on the face of it.
  • In Dekaranger, the Delta Blasters (there called D-Magnums) fired bullets, which is why smoke trails can often be seen coming from the gun barrels when Jack fires. They were all digitally painted over with lasers in America.
  • On many occasions, when S.W.A.T. Mode and the Delta Enforcers are summoned, text can be seen in the background describing the characters' names and other words from Dekaranger.
  • S.P.D.'s Battlizer holds the dubious distinction of being the first and so far only one in any Power Rangers series to be rendered obsolete after its introduction. The arrival of S.W.A.T. Mode as a powerful team upgrade made the Battlizer mostly unnecessary. Jack's strategically placed armor is often the butt of fan jokes, as well, being nicknamed his “Cyber Diaper”, “Battle Thong” or “Metal Cup”. It also has the (more honorable) distinction of being the only American-made Ranger upgrade to be featured in a Japanese Sentai series. Ban, Jack's counterpart, summoned it in the Dekaranger vs. Magiranger teamup movie, albeit using his normal morpher to do so and transforming straight into Sonic Mode.
